Updated Seismic Data

The Australia 3D seismic layer has been updated. The layer combines 3D survey polygons from various government departments.

Please note:

1.     Australia 3D can be found in the SEISMIC > OVERLAYS group in the Map Manager.

2.     In the interests of conveniently combining disparate data sets, some attributes that existed in the original, individual files may be missing from the combined version.

3.     A small number of Queensland surveys are duplicated in the South Australian data.

4.     The data contained in the Australia 3D layer is the property of the suppliers.  Right-click on the layer name in the Map Manager and select View data provenance to see full attribution.

5.     We will continue to update the 3D Australia layer biannually from state department sources.

Industry Summary

Company News

ExxonMobil Corp has agreed to acquire all outstanding shares of InterOil Corp for more than $2.5 billion. The deal is expected to close in September 2016. Oil Search Ltd has withdrawn from its InterOil takeover attempt. Under terms of the agreement, InterOil shareholders will receive $45.00 per share of InterOil paid in ExxonMobil shares at closing, and a contingent resource payment, which will be an additional cash payment of $7.07 per share for each tcfe gross resource certification of Elk-Antelope field above 6.2 tcfe up to 10 tcfe. (Source: Oil & Gas Journal, 21/07/2016).

Eneabba Gas Ltd has advised that the due date for satisfaction of conditions for completion of the agreement with UIL Energy Ltd has been further extended to 31/08/2016. This extension has been necessary to allow for delays with the Department of Mines and Petroleum on the processing of the transfer of the Ocean Hill permit to Eneabba, being a precondition for completion of the sale agreement with UIL. (Source: Eneabba Gas announcement, 22/07/2016).

Blue Energy is proposing a gas pipeline to link the Bowen Basin gas province to the south east Queensland gas market. Blue is seeking interest from pipeline construction companies to fund the construction of the proposed new link, which is part of the effort to commercialise Blue's gas reserves and resources in the Moranbah area. Gas exploration by Blue, Arrow Energy and others in the Moranbah region has delineated a very large gas resource which exceeds the current local demand and, with no direct pipeline connection to either Gladstone or Wallumbilla, this resource currently remains untapped. (Source: Blue Energy announcement, 29/07/2016).

Developments

The Woodside Petroleum-led North West Shelf joint venture has decided to defer the proposed Lambert Deep natural gas field development in the Carnarvon Basin offshore Western Australia. The company said the deferral had come following completion of front-end engineering and design for the project. The slump in oil and gas prices had been considered in making the decision. The joint venture will instead focus on the exploration prospectivity in the North West Shelf region and the potential for integration of Lambert Deep with the portfolio of future gas supply options. Subject to a final investment decision, first production from Lambert Deep is now targeted for the early 2020’s. (Source: Oil & Gas Journal, 21/07/2016).

Hyundai Heavy Industries has delivered the Ocean GreatWhite, the world’s largest semi-submersible drilling rig, to Diamond Offshore. The rig will be chartered to BP for operation in the Great Australian Bight from October this year. However, the question remains about whether BP will be able to use the $US585,000 per day rig in Australian waters this summer. BP’s drilling plans have been set back, the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority now expects the third iteration of the environmental plan to be lodged by 31/08/2016, at which time the assessment will recommence. The rig will now complete final assessment before, in theory, making its way to Australia for the Stomlo 1 well, assuming the regulator gives BP approval to go ahead with its drilling. (Source: Energy News Bulletin, 22/07/2016).

Chevron Corporation’s Gorgon Project in Western Australia has resumed LNG production at the facility located on Barrow Island. The liquefaction and export plant was unexpectedly closed and evacuated in July, after a “minor gas leak” was detected. Train 1 has now reportedly been restarted and shipping activities of the delayed cargoes are expected to recommence shortly. (Source: Energy News Premium, 25/07/2016).

Technip has secured a contract for the Woodside-led Greater Enfield Project offshore Western Australia. The contract covers project management, design, engineering, procurement, installation and pre-commissioning of the carbon steel production flowline, carbon steel water injection flowline, flexible risers and flowlines totalling 82km. Also 40km of dynamic and static umbilicals, subsea structures and valves and the multi-phase pump system for the development. (Source: Energy News Bulletin, 28/07/2016).

Shell Australia has awarded a five-year contract to Norwegian firm DOF Subsea for underwater services and supply of a multipurpose supply vessel for the Prelude floating LNG Facility. The contract entails inspection, maintenance, and repair work for the vessel and contains two 2-year extension options. DOF will provide project management, engineering, and integrated services for IMR programs as well as the Prelude facility and options for other vessels. (Source: Energy News Bulletin, 01/08/2016).

The Woodside-operated North West Shelf Venture has started the environmental approvals process for the Persephone development, located 7km north-east of the North Rankin Complex. Production of gas and condensate would start late 2017, using two new subsea wells that will be tied back to the North Rankin platforms. It has made some minimal revisions to the environmental plan governing North Rankin. The regulator is expected to hand down its decision by the end of the month. (Source: Energy News Premium, 02/08/2016).

MEO Australia has gained environmental approvals for its proposed Tassie Shoal Projects offshore Northern Australia, extending the period for the LNG project to 2052. Tassie Shoal comprises of one LNG Plant (TSLNG) and two methanol plants (TSMP1 & TSMP2). MEO said TSLNG has a design capacity of 3 mtpa and provides significant cost savings relative to other LNG development options. Under full development, the two methanol plants would use 440 mscf/d, or 4 tcf of raw gas over 25 years. The plants can accept raw gas with a CO2 content of up to 30%. (Source: MEO announcement, 04/08/2016).

ConocoPhillips is seeking approval to conduct further appraisal drilling of the Barossa gas field.

The program, for which it is seeking environmental approval from the National Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority, will include up to three wells, potentially with the first to spud before the end of the year. The drilling campaign could start as early as December 1 and is expected to be completed within 18 months. NOPSEMA is expected to make its decision within a month. (Source: Energy News Premium, 12/08/2016).

Discoveries

Beach Energy and its partners Santos and Origin Energy have drilled the fourth well in a five well development program in the Tirrawarra-Gooranie field. Tirrawarra 90 was cased and suspended as a future producer. The well intersected net gas pay of 40m in the Patchawarra Formation across a 289m gross section, and net oil pay of 4.4m in the Lower Patchawarra Formation across a 6m gross section. The well also intersected 24m of net oil pay within a 33m gross section in the Tirrawarra Sandstone. Gas pay was in line with predrill estimates and oil pay in excess of predrill estimates. (Source: Beach Energy announcement, 03/08/2016).

In Queensland, Santos, Beach Energy and Origin Energy wrapped up a three-well gas appraisal campaign in the Coolah Complex. Coolah 4, the final well of the campaign, was cased and suspended as a future producer following intersection of gas pay in the primary target Toolachee Formation, which was marginally below predrill estimates. The well intersected net gas pay of 4.5m within a 71 m gross section. (Source: Beach Energy announcement, 03/08/2016).
